That UP Wall

I think it was in September or early October when I noticed that the long wall outside UP's Toyota Institute (infront of Maynilad Waters) was being painted. The artist, I thought, was really gifted. I'd been wanting to take photos of the wall to document the progress, but would always forget my camera.

Until one afternoon last week, I had my camera with me when I accompanied my mommy to Shopping Center, UP. While I was taking photos of the wall, to my surprise, the artist was there painting! He is AG Sano, the talent behind the dolphin artworks you can see around the metro.

When he was young, he could speak French but there came a time when he had to choose between language and art lessons. He chose art. My reaction was "sayang!". He said, "Hindi. Kung nag French ako, wala lahat nang ito". I guess he was right.

His group plans to paint all the walls along Katipunan up to Katip Extension. I really admire their initiative and believe that the avenue badly needs art.

He told me I could join them the following day. So, I brought mommy along! She really enjoyed but got tired so we went home for lunch.

I think she used to be a vandal (haha). She painted her name and ... some plants! And it sunk in to me that maybe, she really was my ultimate artistic influence, especially when I was a child.

If you are free on Sunday, December 9, come and let's paint the wall together! We'll be there at around 9AM! Hope to see you there :)

  1. Wow Mansy! Pwede kaming sumali? :) Nice work, and nice work by your mom! My mom's one of my artistic influences too, we used to make my own personalized stationery when I was around 7, using brown kraft paper, and leaves found in our backyard and paint. I think I still have them, I'll show you in the future. :) We also made miniature pots for my dolls using airdry clay, and used my brother's lego to make impression stamps. :) It's great that they encouraged us to be crafty and creative!
