Christmas Breakfast

We had a very quiet and simple Christmas breakfast. One thing's for sure: no matter how beautiful "bread with butter" looks like in photographs, it's not enough for me! I need my rice and ulam!

And although I still miss how it could get so cold in the morning, especially during -ber months, back in the 90s, I'm happy this Christmas has inspired me to do another project to welcome the new year ;)

Hand-carved Christmas Deer and a Totebag

Christmas Deer

Christmas Deer

I hand-carved a deer rubber stamp the other day and made myself a Christmas tote bag. I've chosen a deer because we don't really see them around and I think they're antlers are beautiful, elegant, and so Chrismas-y! I'll also use the print for a project I'll start working on come January.

As for now, I'll just rummage for more extra canvas bags in my room while waiting for midnight :)

S'mores for the 23rd

Christmas 2012

Wow it's almost Christmas already!

It's the season when everyone's stuck in traffic, rushing to malls to buy gifts for relatives, and getting stuck in traffic again going to their 2nd or 3rd party for the night!

Last night, I decided to avoid all that. Not that I didn't want to go to parties or see friends. I took it upon myself to babysit my brother and just stayed in watching and re-watching the two Sex and the City movies. At 11.30, mommy got home and I headed to Cantina - just a 5-minute drive from our village -  to have a few drinks with friends from UP. I believe it was good ol' Cantina's last day last night. It's now closed/gone, along with all the happy, embarassing memories of yesteryears ;)

And the real point of this post is this:

S'mores for the 23rd

Today, I made s'mores. Like what I have said countless of times before, I don't cook.

For Christmas, my friend at work, Angela, gave me a DIY S'mores kit. This morning, I finally opened it and prepared the ingredients. I was happily surprised because 1) I found myself excited not to take photos but to actually eat something I had prepared and 2) I realized it was the first time I'd be using my December stoneware plates.

December Stoneware Plate Collection

Although I got to choose the colors of the glazes I used for these plates, I didn't know how they would turn out after getting fired in the kiln twice. I wasn't even sure if they would survive. After several days of waiting, my earthen December Plates are finally here.

The blue and teal+white plates were gifted to Iona and Pao, the kindred souls behind Coffee Aid, for their wedding last 12.12.12.

Project for the 3rd Craft Soirée

I went to Pino last Saturday morning to attend the 3rd Craft Soirée. The night before that, I was able to make washi jewelry and clay gift tags. I used the stamps I hand-carved to make the tags personalized.

I can't believe it had been almost 8 months already when I attended the first soirée. Back then, I knew it was a happy day because of the good food and beautiful craft goodies each of us received. Little did I know that the event would have a great impact on my life as an artist, a maker. I was immersed to different types of arts and crafts there. More importantly, I've gained new friends I can share new craft ideas and collaborate with.

That UP Wall

I think it was in September or early October when I noticed that the long wall outside UP's Toyota Institute (infront of Maynilad Waters) was being painted. The artist, I thought, was really gifted. I'd been wanting to take photos of the wall to document the progress, but would always forget my camera.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Until one afternoon last week, I had my camera with me when I accompanied my mommy to Shopping Center, UP. While I was taking photos of the wall, to my surprise, the artist was there painting! He is AG Sano, the talent behind the dolphin artworks you can see around the metro.

When he was young, he could speak French but there came a time when he had to choose between language and art lessons. He chose art. My reaction was "sayang!". He said, "Hindi. Kung nag French ako, wala lahat nang ito". I guess he was right.

His group plans to paint all the walls along Katipunan up to Katip Extension. I really admire their initiative and believe that the avenue badly needs art.

He told me I could join them the following day. So, I brought mommy along! She really enjoyed but got tired so we went home for lunch.

I think she used to be a vandal (haha). She painted her name and ... some plants! And it sunk in to me that maybe, she really was my ultimate artistic influence, especially when I was a child.

If you are free on Sunday, December 9, come and let's paint the wall together! We'll be there at around 9AM! Hope to see you there :)
