Hand-carved Stamp

I'm a Katipunan kid. Whenever distractions at home, in my room, are way too powerful than the looming deadline, I head to Katipunan and hang out at a coffee shop.

One time, I did just that and I totally lost track of time and just carved:

My friend, Carlo, dropped by and couldn't believe how I could spend 6hours+ just sitting, with two to three washroom breaks, and carving. I couldn't believe it too!

PPS I was able to finish the stamp I'd be using for my next collection of stoneware plates. Read about it here.

With Tippy

I had baked chicken when Tippy and I met up at Bellini's to have a crafty Wednesday together. It was a really good meal!

With Tippy

I borrowed her calligraphy tools but I couldn't really stand my handwriting so I shifted to papercutting:

But after 20 minutes, I resumed working on the stamp I was planning to use for my next stoneware plate collection. I clearly didn't know how to focus.

With Tippy

Tippy and everyone else who were required to take calligraphy lessons when they were still students are so lucky! Being exposed to the craft as early as gradeschool or highschool should be a priority. I wish the nuns in my former schools would soon realize that.

With Tippy

Tippy lent me her Frankie, Issue #50. The cover is embossed... so cute! She also shared her stash of lovely origami paper, stationary, and note cards.

January,

1. I've been thinking a lot lately about finally finishing the second half of my thesis for my MA in French. It is about the French visual poet Guillaume Apollinaire and the adaptation of his works to modern times. To give you an idea about his visual poetry, watch this. My output could also be in the form of a poetry session, exhibit, chapbook, or street art even. If you have suggestions, message me! :)

2. In line with #1, I received a few emails asking about French lessons. I will resume tutoring basic French "at a random cafe in Katipunan" in March. Hope I get to see my past students again :)

3. These are some of the new stoneware pieces I've been working on since the 2nd week of January. They're serving bowls. I started making them when I got fixated on having my own place, an apartment, a condo, or maybe a house (haha!). Anything actually that I could call my own with a small pocket garden (non-negotiable).

4. On some days, you just feel uninspired. So, you go to the nearest mall and watch a crappy movie to "borrow someone else's reality", as my friend Omps would say, for a good 1 hour or 2.

5. I just received my Go Getter Planner! It's really encouraging because there are challenges and good deals every month. Thanks Arriane, Ruth, Amanda, and Karen for this. Looking forward to more collaborations with you.

6. I received an invitation to go to 10 Alabama for a shoot. I was there an hour before the call time. It has made me realize that I really love what I'm doing because I'm willing to wake up early for it.

7. Who says crafting is only for girls? Meet Daniel, one of the participants of the last Hey Kessy Washi Workshop. Everyone was so amazed of his works! He really takes crafting seriously. Read about him here.

8. I am already organizing the next Hey Kessy Washi Workshop and Hey Kessy Messy Washi Party. What other washi projects would you like to learn making?
