My Studio: To thrive and to make

I spent my childhood in my mom's hometown in Pangasinan. Having our whole backyard - even our neighbors' - and the streets as our playground, we would spend our afternoons collecting things we could turn into toys. Yup! We were used to making our own toys instead of buying new ones.

My sister, Germee, and I would play bahay-bahayan almost all the time. It was our favorite! Sometimes, even our brothers would join as our kawals (soldiers). Haha! I don't know why we needed soldiers for our humble pastime. Anyhoo, we'd clean old furniture and appliances, and use them in our mini homes. We'd set up just about anywhere - dilapidated houses, that one vacant lot infront of our house, a neighbor's garden, empty fishpond, and under our beds! Sometimes, we'd pretend we were grownups visiting each other's bahay-bahayan to gossip about our other "kapitbahays" and "amigas" .

Having a space or home - not necessarily a whole house - had been one of dreams since I was a kid. So, for my 27th birthday, I've gifted myself with a  s p a c e.
